On June 16th, we are thrilled to welcome Pichet Klunchun and Kornkarn Rungsawang from the renowned Pichet Klunchun Dance Company (Bangkok), who will join us after their European premiere of Cyber Subin at Holland Festival, alongside designer Pat Pataranutaporn from MIT Media Lab. Our local expert Abdelhadi Baaddi from Innovation:Lab, research platform for art, technology, and science, will also join to share his experience working with Het Nationale Ballet in the Netherlands. Enriching the conversation will be expert reflections from media and performance studies scholars Dr. Laura Karreman from Utrecht University and Dr. Robert Walton from the University of Melbourne.

In a roundtable, our special guests will share with us their innovative performance projects that incorporate AI, motion capture, and VR, in the fascinating intersection of dance, knowledge transmission, traditional culture, and digital technology. The 3 projects are Cyber Subin (Pichet Klunchun Dance Company), Mali Bucha: Dance Offering (Kornkarn Rungsawang), and Pulse (Innovation:Lab, Dutch National Opera & Ballet and &samhoud). How are bodily knowledges transformed into digital representations and archives, through motion capture and code? How do dancing bodies and non-white bodies complicate and challenge the seemingly-neutral virtual avatar? Is there a future for rituals and traditions in the digital realm? Join us for an exciting afternoon of discussions and reflections!

This event will be followed by drinks, all are welcome!

In Cyber Subin, choreographer Pichet Klunchun combines traditional Thai dance with technology. Together with MIT researcher Pat Pataranutaporn, he has created an AI that deconstructs traditional movements and generates new poses, resulting in a fascinating interaction between human and machine. Cyber Subin demonstrates the potential of combining intangible cultural heritage, intelligent technology, and posthuman choreography to expand artistic expression and preserve traditional wisdom in a contemporary context.

Cybernetics Dance Workshop on the physical relationship between humans and machines

Sun June 15, 7:00PM

Grote Zaal, Likeminds Podium, Gedempt Hamerkanaal 203, 1021 KP
https://www.hollandfestival.nl/en/workshop-cybernatics-dance

€20

With choreographer Pichet Klunchun and researcher Pat Pataranutaporn (MIT Media Lab). During the Cybernetics Dance workshop, you will explore the relationship between humans and machines through cybernetic principles such as feedback and self-regulation. Through various exercises, you will engage with the technology used in the opening performance Cyber Subin. Does human freedom exist within such a system? And can humans and machines form a symbiosis? The workshop is open to professional dancers and physical performers. People without any experience are also welcome.
