Meet the Makers x Nederlands Film Festival

Meet the Makers is again this year joining forces with Nederlands Film Festival (NFF) and offering students and staff at UU free tickets for two events:

• Storyspace artist talks on Friday, September 25, 14:00-17:00 in the Theaterzaal of Bibliotheek Neude, Utrecht
• Rehearsing Research with NFF Digital Fellows, September 26, 14:00-17:00 in the Theaterzaal of Bibliotheek Neude, Utrecht

You can book a free ticket for these events via the links below. Tickets are limited, so don’t wait too long before booking your ticket.

There’s also a possibility of visiting the Storyspace exhibition and attending the Open Lab Session. These are free of charge, but registration is necessary for the Open Lab Sessions (see information below).

Storyspace Artist Talks

During the Storyspace Artist Talks, the artists competing for a Golden Calf for Digital Culture will tell you everything about their work: how did they arrive at their subjects? What are the underlying ideas? How does the chosen technique help tell the story?
The official opening of the Storyspace exhibition will take place in the central hall of Neude Library after this event.

NFF Fellows: Rehearsing Research

Saturday, September 26, 14:00 – 17:00
Theaterzaal, Neude Library, Utrecht

The NFF Fellowships Program supports mid-career makers and collectives in exploring new technologies, themes, and collaborations. During this afternoon, fellows Luna Maurer, Nirit Peled, and Matthew C. Wilson will take you through their research on themes such as remembering and forgetting in the digital age, dancing in dialogue with an AI, and thought experiments around emerging forms of synthetic and artificial biological intelligence and life. Expect thought-provoking insights, new perspectives, and surprising forms.

Storyspace exhibition

September 25 – October 1

Neude Library, Utrecht 

Discover innovative ways of storytelling at the Netherlands Film Festival. In the Storyspace exhibition* at Neude Library, you will experience interactive installations, VR experiences and performances that stimulate your senses. The works by the NFF Digital Fellows will also be on display. There is free access to the Storyspace exhibition.

*Some of the works are only presented for a limited time, or on location:

26 September: Conversations (De LiK, Utrecht)

25-27 September: Graves’ End (Film Room, Neude Library)

HEFT Open Lab Sessions

September 26-28, see website for specific timeslots

HEFT: Heritage for the Future is the new project by the NFF, in collaboration with a broad consortium of makers and institutions, to secure the future of immersive media. Within this two-year project, the consortium investigates methods to sustainably develop Immersive Experiences (IX), including VR and XR, and to preserve them as cultural heritage. During the HEFT Open Lab Sessions in the festival week, four works in progress are presented to an audience for the first time. Audience feedback contributes directly to the further development of these works. Two of the four Open Lab sessions still have available spots, for which you can register: Babel.lib and Revival Roadshow.
