Performance as a method of interdisciplinary research

Here, we can think of cases where knowledge about outer space is reached at through performance. There is an increasing number of artists worldwide that since the Cold War have been dialoguing with science and technology in order to explore this possibility. For example, the well-known biosphere experiments in which  groups of people are isolated in a remote area of our planet in order to gather data about how might an eventual interplanetary mission unfold are examples of explorations through performance. More recently, this kind of exploratory investigations are also performed by non-human agents, demonstrating what Jon McKenzie has termed ‘techno-performance’. These examples illustrate how “performance” already figures in fields like astronomy  and astrophysics, and therefore they are in themselves an entry point for performance scholarship to offer a methodological angle.
